Why Proper Roof Ducting Matters
Venting range hoods and bathroom fans directly through the roof is the most effective way to remove moisture, grease, and odours from your home. Unlike recirculating systems or venting into ceiling cavities, roof ducting completely evacuates unwanted air outside, preventing moisture damage, mould growth, and structural deterioration.
Benefits of Professional Roof Ducting
Complete moisture and steam removal from your home
Prevents condensation damage in ceiling cavities
Eliminates cooking odours and grease buildup
Reduces mould and mildew growth
Building Code compliant installations
Weatherproof roof penetrations with no leaks
Improved indoor air quality
Protects insulation from moisture damage
Increases efficiency of range hoods and extraction fans
Professional finish with concealed ducting
Range Hood Roof Ducting
Range hood ducting installation requires expertise to ensure proper airflow, grease management, and weatherproof roof penetration. Our professional installations maximize extraction efficiency while maintaining your home’s weather-tightness.
Range Hood Ducting Systems
Ducting Components
Professional range hood installations use quality components designed for high-temperature, grease-laden air extraction from kitchen environments.
Rigid or semi-rigid metal ducting (typically 150mm diameter)
Insulated ducting to prevent condensation
Smooth internal surfaces for maximum airflow
Fire-rated ducting materials where required
Weatherproof roof terminals and cowls
Backdraft dampers to prevent reverse airflow
Secure ceiling cavity mounting systems
Range Hood Types We Install
We install roof ducting for all range hood configurations, ensuring optimal extraction regardless of your kitchen layout.
Canopy range hoods (wall-mounted)
Island range hoods (ceiling-mounted)
Slideout and undermount rangehoods
Commercial-grade kitchen extraction
Downdraft extraction systems
Custom fabricated range hoods
Kitchen Extraction Requirements
Effective kitchen extraction depends on proper ducting design, correct sizing, and minimal restrictions to airflow. We ensure your range hood performs at its maximum rated capacity.
Ducting Design Principles
Shortest possible duct run to minimize resistance
Minimal bends and elbows (smooth 90° bends preferred)
Correct duct diameter matching range hood specifications
Smooth internal surfaces to reduce friction
Proper slope to allow condensate drainage
Adequate range hood capacity for cooking type and frequency
Grease Management
Range hood ducting must manage grease-laden vapours safely. Our installations include proper grease management features to prevent buildup and maintain fire safety.
Grease Control Features
Quality range hood filters to capture grease particles
Smooth metal ducting that resists grease accumulation
Proper duct slope for grease drainage
Accessible cleaning points where required
Fire-rated materials for safety compliance
Regular cleaning and maintenance guidance
Bathroom Fan Roof Ducting
Bathroom extractor fans must vent directly to the exterior through the roof to effectively remove moisture and prevent damage to ceiling cavities, insulation, and structural timber.
Bathroom Ventilation Systems
Ducting Components for Bathroom Fans
Bathroom fan installations require moisture-resistant components and proper insulation to handle the humid air being extracted.
Insulated flexible or rigid ducting (typically 100-150mm diameter)
Moisture-resistant duct materials
Backdraft dampers to prevent cold air return
Weatherproof roof terminals
Condensation drainage provision
Secure mounting to prevent sagging
Bathroom Fan Types
We install roof ducting for all bathroom extractor fan configurations, from basic ceiling fans to sophisticated humidity-sensing systems.
Standard ceiling-mounted extraction fans
Inline fans with remote ducting
Humidity-sensing automatic fans
Timer-controlled extraction fans
Heat lamp combination units
Silent operation low-noise fans
Moisture Control and Prevention
Proper bathroom ventilation prevents moisture damage that can cost thousands in repairs. Our ducting installations eliminate moisture at the source.
Moisture Prevention Benefits
Eliminates condensation on walls and ceilings
Prevents mould and mildew growth
Protects ceiling cavity insulation
Prevents timber rot and structural damage
Reduces paint peeling and wallpaper damage
Improves bathroom air quality
Faster drying after showers
Multiple Bathroom Solutions
Homes with multiple bathrooms can have individual or centralized extraction systems. We design the most efficient solution for your property.
Multi-Bathroom Options
Individual ducting runs for each bathroom
Centralized inline fan with multiple intakes
Y-junction ducting for adjacent bathrooms
Separate roof terminals or combined outlets
Coordinated timer and humidity controls
Had Embr install proper roof ducting for our new range hood during our kitchen renovation in Ponsonby. Our previous rangehood just vented into the ceiling cavity which was causing moisture problems. The team cut through to the roof, installed insulated ducting, and put in a weatherproof terminal that matches our tile roof perfectly. The extraction is so much better now – cooking smells actually disappear instead of lingering for hours. Installation took about 4 hours, they were tidy, and the roof penetration is completely sealed. Really professional work
